In a bid to combat drug abuse among the youth, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan’. This campaign aims to mobilize young individuals across India to spearhead a national movement against drug addiction. As part of this initiative, a 100-week public participation drive has been launched. Every Sunday, activities such as sports events, walkathons, meditation sessions, cultural programs, and community outreach efforts are set to take place, focusing on raising awareness and engaging the community in the fight against drug abuse.
During a virtual address to the participants, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the threat posed by drug trafficking, emphasizing that it is often used by hostile entities to undermine India’s interests and target its youth. He stressed the importance of safeguarding young people from falling into the trap of addiction, noting that this is crucial for the development of a progressive and prosperous India, or ‘Viksit Bharat’. Modi commended the involvement of over one crore youths from diverse backgrounds who have joined the campaign, acknowledging their role in spreading the anti-drug message across the nation.
Modi further underlined the significance of this movement by pointing out the collective pledge taken by lakhs of young individuals to abstain from drugs. These youths have committed themselves to not only stay away from addictive substances but also to actively promote awareness within their communities, thereby playing a vital role in fostering a drug-free environment.
