Google has rolled out its Gemini in Chrome artificial intelligence features to Android users in India, integrating AI-powered assistance directly into the Chrome browser. This move aims to enhance user experience by allowing them to perform a variety of web-based tasks, such as summarizing webpages and connecting information across Google services.
Gemini in Chrome acts as an AI assistant within the browser, facilitating tasks like webpage summaries, connecting with Google services like Gmail and Calendar, and even generating images. A key component of this update is the introduction of a more advanced auto-browse feature, which is available for both desktop and Android devices to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers in India.
The auto-browse feature is designed to navigate websites and complete tasks on behalf of users. It can handle complex, multi-step activities, such as comparing products, finding deals, booking event tickets, making restaurant reservations, and scheduling appointments. This feature aims to simplify tasks that typically require users to browse multiple webpages and take several actions.
To ensure safe AI browsing, Google has implemented safeguards to mitigate potential risks associated with AI agents interacting directly with websites. Gemini is programmed to identify threats like prompt-injection attempts, and users may be required to confirm sensitive actions before they are executed. These measures are crucial, especially when an AI system is capable of making changes or conducting transactions on behalf of a user.
The ability to perform multi-step tasks through auto-browse is contingent upon the user’s Google AI subscription. Google AI Pro subscribers can make up to 20 multi-step requests per day, while Google AI Ultra subscribers are allowed up to 200 requests per day. With this expansion, Google is empowering users to leverage AI for more than just answering questions, enabling them to execute tasks across the web seamlessly.
