Opsio, a Swedish company specializing in cloud and artificial intelligence technologies, has introduced PrismIQ, an automated visual inspection service aimed at enhancing the efficiency of defect detection in manufacturing processes. The service has been initially launched in India, marking its first commercial availability, with plans for a broader international rollout in the future. PrismIQ utilizes industrial cameras paired with deep-learning models that are specifically trained on the unique products of individual manufacturers, enabling the system to identify a variety of production issues such as surface defects, cracks, contamination, dimensional variations, and assembly errors as they occur during manufacturing.
The inspection technology is integrated with edge hardware installed directly on production lines, which facilitates rapid processing of inspection results without sole dependence on manual checks. This system allows for data integration with existing PLC and SCADA infrastructure, supporting the automation of sorting and decision-making processes on production lines. Opsio emphasizes that PrismIQ is designed to overcome the limitations of manual inspection, particularly in high-speed manufacturing settings where examining each product individually can be challenging. The platform employs an active-learning system that uses production data to continuously improve its detection models over time.
PrismIQ is presented as a comprehensive, end-to-end service rather than just standalone vision software. Opsio takes responsibility for managing various aspects such as camera, lens, and lighting configuration, model development and validation, integration with factory systems, and ongoing operation. Additional features include operator training, quality dashboards, and periodic performance reviews. According to Opsio, a typical project can move from an initial feasibility assessment to full production deployment within an eight to twelve-week timeframe.
India was selected for PrismIQ’s initial commercial launch due to its rapidly growing manufacturing sector and Opsio’s established presence in the country, which includes an AI Lab in Bengaluru dedicated to developing and testing applied AI solutions for industrial uses. The technology itself is developed at Opsio’s headquarters in Karlstad, Sweden. Currently, PrismIQ is offered to manufacturers across sectors like automotive, electronics, food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. The engagement process begins with a feasibility study and proof-of-concept using the manufacturer’s own product samples.
