Russia has warned of a complete reconsideration of its peace talks strategy following what Moscow describes as a Ukrainian attack attempt on President Putin’s residence. US President Donald Trump, informed of the incident by Putin, expressed strong disapproval of the alleged action.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Ukraine launched 91 unmanned aerial vehicles toward Putin’s Novgorod region property. He stated that while all drones were intercepted and destroyed, the incident represented what he characterized as a shift to “state terrorism.”
Trump’s public statements emphasized his concern about targeting leadership residences during sensitive peace negotiations. Speaking to reporters, he distinguished between conventional military operations and attacks on a world leader’s home, suggesting the latter fundamentally undermines diplomatic efforts.
Ukrainian President Zelensky firmly denied the allegations, calling them fabricated propaganda designed to sabotage peace efforts. He accused Russia of creating a false narrative to justify planned strikes against Ukrainian government infrastructure and to derail diplomatic progress.
The controversy comes just one day after Trump and Zelensky met and expressed optimism about achieving peace. Putin’s subsequent phone call with Trump, during which the Kremlin announced a complete reconsideration of strategy, demonstrates the severe impact on the peace process.
