During a United Nations Security Council session, India delivered a strong rebuke to Pakistan, dismissing the latter’s use of the term “Fitna al-Hindustan” to label certain groups active in the Balochistan region. Harish Parvathaneni, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, condemned the designation as state-sponsored misinformation. He accused Pakistan of employing religious language to incite animosity towards India.
Parvathaneni addressed the Security Council by asserting that the narrative propagated by Pakistan is part of a broader disinformation campaign. This campaign, he argued, aims to distract from Pakistan’s own political and economic issues at home. He suggested that the rhetoric serves to perpetuate anti-India sentiment, rather than tackling the root causes of Pakistan’s internal challenges.
Pakistan’s official labeling of militant groups in Balochistan as “Fitna al-Hindustan” implies efforts backed by foreign entities to destabilize the region. In response, India has also voiced concerns about Pakistan’s military actions in Afghanistan. The Indian envoy alleged that airstrikes carried out by Pakistan have resulted in civilian casualties, criticizing these actions as unjustifiable under the pretext of counterterrorism. Parvathaneni emphasized the need for accountability in such operations.
The Indian representative further criticized the political and military leadership in Pakistan, arguing that blaming neighboring nations for domestic issues would not resolve the country’s internal problems. This exchange underscores the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan on international platforms, where accusations of interference and destabilizing activities are frequently traded by both nations.
