During a recent visit to Moscow, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who expressed his desire to meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon. Putin conveyed his best wishes to Modi through Jaishankar and suggested that their next encounter could potentially occur in relation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. Additionally, Putin is anticipated to travel to New Delhi for the upcoming BRICS leaders’ summit in September.
Putin took the opportunity to emphasize the strengthening trade relations between Russia and India, noting the increase in fertiliser exports to India. He also indicated Russia’s readiness to augment these supplies further as part of the growing economic collaboration between the two nations. This aligns with the broader strategy of enhancing bilateral ties, particularly in the context of trade and economic exchanges.
Earlier in the visit, Jaishankar held discussions with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. The talks focused on bolstering trade and economic cooperation, with Manturov expressing Russia’s interest in potentially localizing nuclear fuel production within India. This move could signify a deepening of the strategic partnership between the countries, particularly in energy collaboration.
Jaishankar’s visit to Moscow is also expected to include a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. In these discussions, the agenda is likely to cover various aspects of bilateral relations along with regional and global issues.
