Union Home Minister Amit Shah recently emphasized the burgeoning defence manufacturing sector in Uttar Pradesh, underscoring the state’s contribution to India’s military capabilities. At the inauguration of the fourth edition of the UP International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Shah highlighted the strategic importance of BrahMos missiles produced in the state, claiming they keep Pakistan on edge.
Shah highlighted the investments flowing into all six nodes of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, which includes Jhansi, Chitrakoot, Lucknow, Agra, Aligarh, and Kanpur. These nodes are pivotal in enhancing the state’s defence manufacturing infrastructure. Notably, the BrahMos Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow and the AK-203 assault rifle production in Amethi were cited as key developments. The Lucknow facility, inaugurated in May 2025, focuses on the assembly, integration, and testing of the supersonic cruise missile, with its first batch rolled out in October 2025.
With an investment of approximately ₹300 crore over nearly 200 acres, the Lucknow BrahMos facility aims to bolster indigenous defence production, support ancillary industries, and create skilled employment. Shah also noted that the state’s improved law-and-order situation and expanding industrial base were instrumental in attracting investments.
The Home Minister lauded the One District, One Product initiative, emphasizing its role in expanding local industries and generating employment opportunities for the youth of Uttar Pradesh. This initiative is part of a broader effort to stimulate economic growth and development across the state.
The UP International Trade Show 2026, running from September 25 to 29, serves as a platform for manufacturers, MSMEs, exporters, artisans, startups, investors, and international buyers to showcase their products and foster business opportunities. This event underscores Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to becoming a significant hub for trade and industry.
