Delhi is gearing up for a significant welfare and infrastructure initiative as the city government prepares to roll out the Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan, a comprehensive campaign set to span an entire month starting September 17. The announcement came from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who detailed the extensive scope of the program designed to coincide with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25th anniversary of public service. The ambitious campaign is expected to see the inauguration and foundation-laying of projects totaling approximately ₹13,800 crore throughout the capital.
The Sewa Sankalp Abhiyan is not only about infrastructure but also focuses heavily on community welfare. The itinerary includes blood donation camps aimed at collecting 2,500 units, alongside organ donation awareness and health camps tailored specifically for senior citizens. Moreover, sanitation drives and efforts to clean the Yamuna River mark the campaign’s commitment to environmental betterment. Registration camps for various government welfare schemes will be available across all 70 of Delhi’s assembly constituencies.
A significant portion of the campaign’s budget, about ₹8,000 crore, is earmarked for projects related to the Yamuna River. Additionally, the initiative will acknowledge the contributions of over 4,000 Anganwadi and ASHA workers, underlining the campaign’s dedication to recognizing grassroots service providers. The government has also planned extensive educational activities for students and young individuals in approximately 5,000 schools. These activities include painting and speech contests as well as an innovation challenge aimed at fostering ideas for a developed India.
The assortment of projects planned to be launched during this month-long event covers diverse sectors. The Delhi Jal Board will see ₹8,000 crore in projects, while the Public Works Department (PWD) has plans worth ₹2,800 crore. The power sector is set to receive ₹1,500 crore, with irrigation and flood-control projects allocated ₹365 crore. Additionally, the tourism sector will see developments worth ₹77 crore. This extensive array of projects underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to holistic urban development and citizen welfare.
